Hi everyone,

I currently have the GSP Family Tree maker 2005 Deluxe Edition which I find pretty good but the 2008 Edition which is apparently completely different is better....in some places!

Has anyone purchased this and would they advice anyone getting it? I really would like some opinions please!

Thanks everyone.

Lou

Louise dont bother yet, Ive bought it but there are so many glitches I dont use it. Im stillusing my FTM2006 which I find is the best edition so far. You can get it on play.com for £5.99 at the moment - it has the facilities to have a website with all your info - for your rellies to view anywhere in the world plus you can back up to cd and to internet storage - belt and braces safety.

If you do a search of the board you will find a few threads where basically the 2008 is not recommended.

LOL, Id been excited at the thought of it plotting the birth places of all my ancestors on a map - whoa, it has my GGFx3 born in aglab China or something! I cant get on with it at all, thats apart from it freezing all the time and closing down.

Im sticking with 2006 until I hear they have sorted the 2008.

By the way you can get the 2006 on play.com with 30 days ancestry for only £5.99 at the moment.

Yes its not an easy site to navigate. I believe I entered a search for family tree to bring it up. Dont buy the deluxe - you dont need all those extra cds. The basic one is fine.

Heather, is the 2006 better than 2005?
What else does it do?
And, if I got it, how would I transfer the stuff I've got on my current version (2005)?

So many questions! Sorry, but I know you'll have
the answers!

Bee.

Got to sign off for a while, but I'll check back later.

If you go to my-history website they have a comparison chart of all the software.

Basically from what I remember when I swopped from 2005 to 2006 (and its very easy to swop yourstuff over from one to the other) 2005 didnt have the option to create a homepage free on the net (which is brilliant, it appears in sort of book form and you can invite anyone in the world to see it or , like me, allow a google search to pick it up and then you get contacts from it), I dont think the 2005 let you search ancestry and merge results either did it, or back up to cd and internet storage? Possibly cd but I dont think it backed up to internet so that if your puter crashed, and you sat on and broke your cd back up, then with a click of a button all your hard work is restored from cyber space back into your program (Ive actually had to use this and my goodness the relief when 5 years work reappeared!)

Thanks for this Heather.

Sounds like internet backup would be a good idea! Thanks for that reminder - maybe I'll splash out on a 2006 version.

I think it gives you 6 months free internet back up and then you pay about a fiver a year (worth hundreds when you sit here looking at a blank screen I can tell you!)
