My grandfather died in 1956 and I would like to know where I could find a copy of his will. I do know that the solicitors who dealt with it has since closed. Any help appreciated.

Thanks

A couple of points to note:

depending when he died probate may not have taken place until the following year

if you can get to London you can search for yourself and get a copy within an hour for £5.00

not everyone left a will

MB and Alan, thanks for your replies.

As I live close to London I could go in person but where do I go to look and do I need an appointment? He did leave a will.

Thanks

Alan

Thank you very much for the information. I've called the Probate office and I need to go and search in person which isn't a problem. Also, if I do find what I'm looking for they will give me a copy there and then for £5.

Thanks again.
