Hi Heather, You could try the 'South Australian State Library' -they have an 'Ask Us' Librarian service (query form on-line). They hold lots of records and possibly some BMD's. (The 'NSW State Library' offers same service)...... Also -SAGS (on-line) have a 'look-up' service (from $5) -they will check BMD's etc. They also offer a 'transcription service' of BMD certificates. ............ Also there's the (Aus) RAOGK site -with volunteers in all States to help check records etc. -Valerie (WA)

There is a landscape of William Joseph Wadham for sale on e bay right now.

I just googled William Joseph Wadham (artist) and it came up

ROOTSWEB member has Wadham family history she claims William Joseph had returned to England by 1901 and died there in 1950. Other sites say he died in Australia. His brother Alfred Wadham 1866 returned to England and died in 1938. He painted under the name Alfred Sinclair
Lavinia sister born 1877 married Eugene Ernest Jules Constantine Du Rocher in 1895. They and their children were in Vaudeville

Emily sister 1879 also in Vaudeville had illegit. child Mabel. Mabel later took her fathers name of Mercer and became the famous American jazz singer Mabel Mercer.

Benjamin Wadham married Ann Jones in 1856. There is also a marriage for Benjamin Braffatt Wadham in 1871. There is Ann Jones on the same page

however in 1851.
Benjamin Wadham head married 1816 Pool Dorset occ artist(portrait).......DEAF written in box
Matilda Stedman servant 1834 Kirkdale .
No sign of wife

adress 6 Blackfield St Kirkdale Lancs

In 1861 it says Benjamin is deaf &dumb.

What an interesting family. Beats being an ag.lab or servant

Hi Heather

I would think that Josephine died in SA between 1893 and 1895 and that Wm Jos married Lilian there in SA c1896 and had Curnow & Edward. Try Kerri's SA lookups thread on Records Office board?

I would also suggest that Thos Braffett b. 1893 should be Thos Braggett, based on what Margaret has uncovered in the census. Very interesting family!

Curnow W J WADHAM returned to NSW as he died in 1924 (reg 14829) in Penrith, NSW, shows as son of Wm J & Lilian J. He married Inez D M HOWARD in Sydney NSW in 1917 (reg 9773). Inez was born in Waverley NSW in 1896 (17640) and died in 1932 (11160) in Redfern NSW, dau of Vernon Willoughby and Amelia Millicent.

Thanks Cherilyn for your interest -I have got all those details and yes I have thought the same as you but can't find Josephine's death in Australia or UK-William spent his time travelling the world painting so details could be anywhere-I even got him on passenger lists travelling to Australia in1917 with wife Mrs Wadham but it did not give her first name-I will try Keri Thanks again Heather
