When I have a little more info. on approximate dates your information will help me alot.
I know some of my grandson's ancestors were born in Jamaica before going to Georgetown. What I need now is courage to start searching for his tree.

I came across this.

The General Register Office in Guyana holds the civil records of all births, marriages and deaths from 1869, when civil registration was introduced. The Registrar General will search and provide a certificate, but bear in mind that unlike British documentation after 1837, not everything survives. General Register Office: GPO Building, Robb Street, Georgetown, Guyana. Tel: +592 (225) 7561

The registers can be quite detailed. For example, birth registers will provide the name, sex, name of mother and her maiden name, as well as the name and occupation of the father. Marriage registers usually provide name, marital status, occupation, age, address and the father's name and occupation. Death registers will give name, age, sex, address, occupation and cause of death.

There are some names listed on Family seach.com for Guyana might be worth trying.

I'm trying to trace my husband's maternal family - his mother was born in British Guiana. She has no paperwork about her parents births or marriage, and can only vaguely remember where her grandparents came from. To complicate matters, she now lives in Canada! Can anyone point me in the right direction please?
