hi,and good morning...i have a hot match regarding Margery Kay b 1827 in penistone,n yorkshire...she married James Williamson b 1831 glossop.....someone on gru has contacted me that he has margery`s mother as Harriet Kay b c1805 penistone...i`m presuming that harriet had a maiden name....is there anyway i can find margery`s birth parents?...i`m not prepared to take this contacts word that harriet is margery`s mother without proof.....any advice would be welcome....kind regards...allan.

Hi Allan
Have you got the marriage certificate for Margery and James? That usually has father's name on for bride and groom.
There is on IGI an extracted record for a Margey Kay , christening 1st October 1826 in Penistone, mother Hariet Kay.

thank you both..sorry about the delay(just had breakfast)..i haven`t sent for the marriage certificate yet.......jim...do you think that there may be a possibility of 2 margery kay`s in penistone b around 1826/7?...i also saw the info on harriet kay on igi...but i was informed not to take igi as gospel unless it is "extracted" info...regards...allan

It's not so unusual as you might think. They would probably be related, but all you need is, say, two brothers naming their kids after the same family member of their, or an earlier, generation. You could check the 1841 census - Margery would probably not be married by then. NB May is a diminutive of Margery, and Margery has variant spellings, e.g. Marjorie.

thanks mgnv....its something i hadn`t realised was very possible...i just took it for granted,so i`ll have to re-think my research...regards...allan
