WILLIAM COOPER married SUSANNAH PARKER on 6-June-1786 in Shipley, Sussex. I know William was born c1756, between 1755 and 1757 (most likely Shipley area). I have information about his children and his death. I cannot find proof of his birth with such little information, correct? Thank you for taking the time to read this.

Have you tried Sussex Records,? They are quite well documented for large families.

I've looked extensively for one branch of my Sussex ancestors, as they had an uncommon name. I haven't looked too much for the three others, as they are all common.

It's worth a try, though. Thank you for the suggestion.

If you have a particular problem there is a Sussex History society listed on Genuki and many trees on Ancestry,Keep digging!

It might be worth looking at Wills.

One of our main surname interests is Sussex based....mostly Ag.labs or similar and with limited imagination in naming their sons.
We have so many James and Williams, ....and a few less Thomas but Wills from Chichester R.O. helped alot in sorting them out.

Gwyn: I was able to find two wills, naturally, for the uncommon surname (Vaus). Haven't found anything yet for the three other surnames, will continue to look, though. Yes, my ancestors were limited with their ability to name children (some would give the excuse that they had naming patterns, but I think they were inconsiderate.) ;) I will have a look at the Chichester office, thank you.

Silly question, have you searched the other Vaus trees on Ancestry ?OK Just shout if we can do anything.

Didn't find A william Cooper in any where near the right time frame in Shipley. Only found one family of Cooper's baptising any children in Shipley in any where near the right time frame. They were a Robert and Jane Cooper and they baptise Son Charles 19th May 1763. Daughter (Jenny?) 22nd June 1765. Samuel (24th?) May 1767. Son James 3rd September 1769. If you find him between now and next tuesday can you post on this thread. otherwise I will look for him in the neighbouring parish's for you then, as I'm in there most tuesdays anyway.

Hi Lindsey: I've not checked recently. After just looking...a couple of the Vaus trees have been removed, but I'm now checking the ones that are still there, and all of the other branches I have. Thank you for the suggestion! (PS I found two distant Vaus rellies in the past and between all of our information, we've found quite a bit about our Vaus ancestors.)

Please don't take anymore time looking...I know he was born around 1756 but now I'm wondering if he was not from the area, or even Sussex. I appreciate all the time you took and might place a lookup again if I can obtain more information. Thank you again. :)

PS After rechecking for wills and reading their descriptions, I may have found more proof of an Irish ancestor's birth! Didn't find my Sussex ancestors, but may now have more proof of a connection with an Irish line. :))) (Hope that makes sense.)
