please can anyone give me any help as to how i would go about looking for and getting information about children being given to the church.

my aunt Margaret Good born 1948 in Dulwich Hospital Lambeth was said to have been given to the church before being adopted.

What you are saying sounds odd, but maybe there is some truth in it.

Was your aunt illegitimate?

If yes, search www.A2A.org.uk for the word "welcare"

You should get back results for a church organisation active in South London that ran mother and baby homes and similar.

Maybe this could be the sort of thing that happened with your aunt?

There are probably no records left (almost all case records relating to this organisation are gone).

However, if you want to move forward, I suggest you search for a baptism. If your aunt and her mother were in the care of wel-care it is very likely she was baptised and there may be an address given at the time of baptism which links to a particular home.

In any case, if the church was involved, there was very possibly a baptism.

Also, has your aunt sought any records which may be available regards her adoption? If she hasn't this would be an obvious thing to do of course.

Hi , I think i was given to the church before adoption,it was to the local church orphanage,if you no the parish perhaps search that

I wonder if as said above the "Given to the Church" is like Nazareth House (run by the nuns - Sisters of Mercy, I think) and other convents that took in children.
