When you say your ancestors disappear from Censuses (Censi?) have you considered that their surname may have been mispelt at some point, on the original census returns or maybe by the 21st century transcriber? It is quite a common occurrence. I have an uncommon surname too that leads to ancestors 'disappearing'

Thank you all for the wonderful information. I shall have to check it all out.

Helen
I am not sure if Richard is one of mine or not. There was a Richard Croskin transported in 1844, so could be him, the record doesn't give his age.

Hi Bascat,

You are so right, a very unusual name. I did a quick check of online immigration index for Victoria, NSW & Qld and came up zilch. Also no hits on the National Archives website.

The only hit I have found so far is a death registered in Liverpool NSW

Reg/Date9234/1885
Name CROSKIN
Given Names RICHARD
AGE 64 YEARS
DIED LIVERPOOL

Nothing on BDM for Qld or Victoria and a quick search of the whitepages didnt get one hit.

Sorry, can't be of more help.

Helen

The name I am looking for is anyone by the name of CROSKIN / CROSSKIN. Its quite an unusual name, not many on the English census. A few of them seem to disappear in between censuses.
I can't find that any of my lot went to America.

Hi Bascat,

It all depends when your ancestors emigrated and where they went to in Austalia.

Post a few more details and we will try to help you.

Don't know what dates you're looking for, but you could try http://www.naa.gov.au/ which is the Australian National Archives site. If you go to Collection at the top of the page and Record Search you might be lucky. I found some family of mine on there who emigrated in the 1960s.

Good luck.

Can anyone suggest any good websites to search for ancestors who emigrated to Australia and New Zealand.

Thanks.
