Yeah, yeah, I´m number dyslexic actually, but just twisted it round on purpose to see if I could confuse you all! Well, I´m zipping up my mouth now and off to bed, goodnight everyone! x |

Reg, If Hazel says he was born c1781 why wouldn´t he be on the 1881 census? when were death certs introduced? Was it the same time as the births? |

If he was born c1781, I doubt if he was on the 1881 census........and certainly not if he was 64 when he died. |

Right, do you know the area he would have been born in? You could find out if he was on the 1881 census, in fact look at 1781 too, as he could have been born in the first quarter of that year. To get his actual birth date you will probably have to look at the Parish records of the area. I have to go to bed now (we are an hour ahead and my new year´s ressy is to have puter off for midnight!) so can´t be of any more help, but if you put the name up I´m sure some kind person will look it up for you if you don´t have that facility. Good luck x |

Sam´s right about whoever registered the death would say what they thought he was and not perhaps what age he really was. The only way you can find out for certain is to look up his birth cert. (even census records are not proof of age) you will probably need to do that anyway if you are researching him. x |

You must have put age 60 on the application. Perhaps that was what was in the death index when you found the death, but it could have been a transcribing error and if everything else on the application form fitted they have just sent the certificate anyway. |

Either / neither could be right! The age on a death certificate is only as accurate as the person that registered the death - if they weren't sure how old the deceased was then it could be way out. |
