Nicola,

looks like Alice has deleted her posts, but from my replies I think she said that she had trouble uploading a Gedcom for the 2008 version, and had reverted to her old program.

I had seen other people complain of glitches in the 2008 too, hence my posts.

From this thread I cant see why you are looking for 2006 - why not get the up to date version? You obviously have a good reason.....is it cost?

I have Generations Grande Suite 8. You can print out all your tree with dates of death and marriage. Or you can choose any part of the family.

Alice, thanks for that... not uploading the GEDCOM is enough to make me go for 2006!

TWR Computing looks the place to go... I will ring them tomorrow as they sell all the genealogy products, and ask their advice on what to use..

I think the best deal on 2006 at the mo is via play.com (around £5 i think).

There are quite a few programmes you could use but in all honesty FTM probably gives you the most options with the range of tree printout charts available and the ability to create partial trees for certain lines or family groups.

Another thing worth considering is the range of reports that a programme can create, these can be especially useful when you want to see how much information you have, just last week i sorted through some burial records and headstone photographs, i entered all the details under "burial facts" and produced a report just detailing those, it was only then i realised my grandfather is buried along with his father and a brother.

The headstone doesn't give all the details, two plots along are some more of the family but my jumbled notes were such a mess i never realised.

Alice, that's what I had heard... hence wanting to purchase the 2006.... what sort of problems were there?

Diane

Diane Report 6 Jan 2008 12:33

grrr.. seems to me, only the USA site is offering the 2006 version, the UK site only has the 2008 version for sale.

Spider/Peter,

I just looked at Ancesty and they are only selling 2008 now? Where can I get 2006? - found it! Version 16...

I have the free PAF software, but I think you'd need to invest some time in customizing reports, as I can't get it to do what you are suggesting, which is what I want too!

James Report 6 Jan 2008 12:22

Peter,

Many thanks for your comments, will take them on board, and the FTM a try. I have checked prices and the 2006 edition appears to be the most reasonable and talked about.
Once again thank you for your advice
Regards Spider.

I sue FTM which will do this quite happily, and once you learn how to customise it it is easy to change the appearance, colour and information you print.

There are other programs out there as well. If you don't want to pay then download the PAF program for free from the Family Search (IGI) site

Can any member recommend a programme that produces a layout very similar to GR's, i.e able to show my complete family tree, with the boxes containing the B,M & D's or possibly more information. I'm not concerned about the size of the print-out as the sheets can be joined together to an A1 print or larger for making a wall chart.
