No, English death certs are nothing like the wonderful Australian and NZ ones.

They only give the date, place and cause of death and the name of the informant.

I dont suppose the English death certs would be any help would they, like saying how many times he had been married and how many years to each one. I know that NZ BDM certs are much more informative than the English ones. For one thing, NZ m certs give names of mothers of bride and groom as well as father, something the English certs didnt give as 'recently' as 1929.

Reggie thank you for that and using your time to do that, i think maybe i should just wait. Because its like looking for a needle in a haystack. Or maybe just give up on being nosey and let it be a mystery.

Catherine, what part of the counry is Gowerton?

Have you looked for William with father Thomas in the 1891 census?

ErikaH

ErikaH Report 14 Dec 2007 15:12

First point........when did the second marriage take place?

Neither the census nor his birth cert will enable you to find his first marriage..........

Thanks to lots of helpful people i found the marriage of my great grandparents. With finding this marriage cert we got a little surprise, my g.grandfather William Henry Thomas was a widower. When i told my grandma this she was just as shocked as she didnt know this, unfortunaetly my Grandpa who was Williams son died 19yrs ago so we have no one to ask about this. I'm intrigued now to know who he married before but i have no idea where to start has anybody else had this happen? i belive i should just give up b4 i start. but curiosty is getting the better of me so any advice would be most helpful.
His name is William Henry Thomas he would have been born c1888, his address at the time of the marriage is Sterry Road Gowerton. His father was called Thomas Thomas. where should i start census or birth cert, i just dont know as his name is a common name.
