I have been searching for ever to find a Charles Barton. He was originally from Wiltshire and I believe the registration district was Trowbridge. I was in touch with the Records Office in Trowbridge and have been down there and have only come up with one Charles Barton born c.1806. How can I be sure that this is my Charles? Any suggestions gratefully received. Charles came to London, Fulham (was in Middlesex county then) and married an Eliza Atkins and their first son Charles was born in 1831....where, I don't know.

Registration did not come into force until 1837.

Prior to that, all you will find will be a baptism, in the Parish registers.

Charles senior was a garden labourer in 1841. Address was Kings Buildings. Baby N K - was a girl. All children born in County.

Reggie & All....Yes, I have the Charles in all census's in Fulham but apart from one baptismal entry in Trowbridge Records Office, I cannot find any other Charles, so, do I assume that the one and only Charles I found in the non-denominational records is the man I am looking for?

No results on censuses for any other Charles Barton born Wiltshire within 25 years of this one.......so the odds seem to be in your favour!
