Well, my suggestion above was the photo board on family tree forum - in that case, yes the fellow members help you out from a scan of your photo and then return it as a jpg

Thanks for your suggestions folks. Rootschat sounds good.

Do they let you have the picture backas a JPG file or do you just have to copy it from screen?

Hi Pandora

Just following on from Heather Posi, another site where you can request restorations is rootschat.com.

I have had several treasured pictures restored and was amazed at how good they were.

If you pop over to Family Tree Forum, there are a number of people there who have the software and are happy to have a go at restoring your pics if you scan and put them on the board. Ive had two or three people working on some of mine and I am amazed what can be done.

Some of the members are brilliant at it - you can get a few doing the same pic at the same time and choose which you want to save. well check it out - there is a board dedicated to photos

I am sure there is softwear availablke to enable you to do it yourself, but expect it would not be a viable propersition for just a few photos.. I sent one of mine away to be done, they made a good job of it and they also enlarged it for me. The price was acceptable for one photo but would cost an arm and leg if you had many.

Try googling to see if anything comes up.

Hi there. I want to try to restore some very old black and white photos of my family. I am not a computer geek and I would like to know of some software that may have been designed specifically for genealogists please?

Does anyone know of anything that will take aways folds, scratches, insert missing pieces and generally sharpen images and maybe even add colour?

Ease of use is all important.

If you cannot name names then maybe you could type the answer in code.

Thank you
