I'm trying to find the WW1 record for Peter Hacking born 1891 in Bermondsey, London. I know he was at Passiondale but that's all.

The only one I can find which is anywhere near is Peter Hoskins, Bermondsey but he is not the one Im looking for.

Any ideas gratefully received.

Is there anyway I can check the Peter Hacking you found, i.e. is there a record which shows his parents/dob/where born/where he served etc.

Ancestry have some WW1 service records but I don't think they have reached the Hs yet. Might be worth checking back every week or so.

I checked Ancestry they have even done up to P's, (I also have Parsons) the H's are there but no record for my Peter Hacking

Has Jolly Sailor got the correct Peter Hacking in his post above - this info is from the National Archives website?

Did Peter Hacking stay in the Army after WW1 - if he was still in the Army after 1920 then you'll need to apply to the MoD to get his service record?

I don't know very much about his service record at all but wouldn't think he stayed longer than neccessary. I just don't know how to confirm if the one Jolly Sailor found is mine or not!!!

Do you know which regiment he was in?

Did he survive the War?

Don't know the regiment but yes he did survive the war and in WW2 he was one of the men that used to go around rescuing people after air raids at home.

As Joy suggested look at http://www.1914-1918.net/ its an excellent site - click on the link under Researching British soldiers. Lots of tips on where to look etc.

Did he marry, while in the army - if so the certificate may record his regiment and or service number

He didn't marry until 1921, I take a look at the site you recommend, thanks a lot.
