Hi I am new to this so please forgive my ignorance!!

I believe I have found my family in the 1901 census although the family are bigger than we had thought. It is possible that a few children died and that is why we don't know of them. How would I try and research this as I have no idea when they may have died (if at all!!)

The second thing is I know my mums great aunt had 2 daughters but again we have no idea of when so how could I start trying to trace this.

I know you probably get asked for help all the time but any steps in the right direction would be very much appreciated.

This is them Sue. Charles Horak was my gramps. Is there anyway to be a 100% sure that the Evelyn Dean in thecensus is the same one that married gramps? I'm preety sure it is but if I am going to tell family something new i need to be pretty sure!

Where would I buy the certificate from and what is the certificate?

If I now want to find whether these relatives had children themselves what should I try next. I had hoped there were more cenusus so I could keep tracking them but as not I am stummped!!

No there aren't anymore census.You just have to trawl through the BMD register on Ancestry.
You buy the marriage cert at GRO
http://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/
You can do this online
Hopefully this will give you the fathers names of the bride and groom.

It's a copy of the Marriage certificate.
When you get the cert, check the names of the witnesses to the said marriage too. (if your lucky they will be related and therefor give you another checking point)


Another tip


NEVER pay more than £7 for any cert.

The best way to do your Family tree is to work backwards...not forwards.

Using the following information from the marriage indexes kindly looked up by Sue you can then order the marriage certificate from the General Register Office www.gro.gov.uk

You will need to enter the names, year, quarter (which is jan to March), volume and page. It costs 7.00 and if a match is found you should recieve the certificate in about a week.

Hopefully this will then give you the marriage location, ages, occupations, addresses, fathers names, fathers occupation and marriage witness names that hopefully lets you take your research one step forward

Thank you to you all for your very kind help, I am still finding this all very difficult as it is all so new but I have a few names so hopefully can plough into it now!!

One final question if I may though!?

I belive Edwin Dean may have died at a young age which is why we don't know about him. I used FreeBMD to see if I could see him, as there are so many and I have no idea of when do i need to try and buy all the death certs so i can see if any of them are him?

The age at death will be listed so you can narrow it down as you already know the birth year. The area in which the death was registered will also help you
