Yes Id have thought all those bits of info would point to John being Irish.

That's interesting. The William I have down as first born is a William Patrick. Sounds like it could well be them don't you think?

They were married in Ireland of all places. Can you believe that?!!! it doesn't help me does it?

Krystyna♥

Krystyna♥ Report 16 Nov 2007 12:34

The child was born Mildred Agnes Martin. She was not illigitimate and Sarah died a Martin as it states that on her headstone.

Have you got the marriage cert for Sarah and John?

If not, it would be worthwhile getting it. The cert would tell you John's age and occupation, and the name and occupation of his father.

The fact that another child was born in 1903 does not actually prove that Sarah was not widowed..........

That is her full Maiden name. She had no middle name given to her. Her mother was born Sarah Ann Mockford. The reason why I want to see the census is to confirm where John Martin was born and his correst birth year.

Krystyna♥

Krystyna♥ Report 16 Nov 2007 12:18

There was another sibling born in 1903 so Sarah wouldn't have been widowed.

Heather

Heather Report 16 Nov 2007 12:17

The dates of their births - the parents, particularly dad is quite mature for a first marriage?

Do you have any of the kids birth cert? If so that will give mothers full maiden name and you can then find the marriage. I think may be someones memory could be misleading you.

My grandmother gave me the names. They would be her aunts and uncles.

Krystyna♥

Krystyna♥ Report 16 Nov 2007 12:12

Yes Reg. That was what I thought. That still leaves 5 siblings together. It's giving me a big headache. Are the census records complete? Would it be worth going to Hove library to look?

Heather

Heather Report 16 Nov 2007 12:11

You must have them somewhere to give the names and dates/places? Can you tell us exactly what you have got please?

That's just it. I haven't been able to find them at all. I've tried putting in John first and then Sarah but can't find them!!

Krystyna♥

Krystyna♥ Report 16 Nov 2007 12:09

Yes you are correct. First two born in Brighton and the rest born in Hove. The mother Sarah A Martin was born in Rottingdean Brighton if that helps anyone. Sorry, I should have put that on in the first place!!! Thank you anyway Reg
