Any Other Way to Pay on Ancestry?

Does anyone know if there is an alternative way to pay on Ancestry, I have just visited a friend who has not got a debit/credit card but would like to take out an Ancestry subscription, she would ideally like to send a cheque. I told her about the 3 day free trial, but what would happen at the end, would they just cancel it out if she didnt put card details in.
Thanks

Marilyn
For the three day trial you don't have to give any payment details.

Hello Marilyn,
I dont know the answer I am afraid, but you could try contacting Ancestry on the free-phone number-

0800 404 9723
Our available hours are Monday through Friday from 09:00 GMT to 19:00 GMT, and Saturday from 09:00 GMT to 17:00 GMT

They will have the answer for you, I am sure I have heard of people paying by cheque before.

I'm not sure about payment methods but i had the 3 day trial not so long ago and mine lasted almost a week instead of the 3 free days it stated.

Have fun :-)

Marilyn, the three day trial is for the american records as well. Most of us sub to the uk ancestry. You can get a 14 day trial on that but you need to give card details. I seem to remember someone managed to pay by cheque some time ago. But give them a ring, they are very friendly and helpful.

Thanks Heather, will tell her to ring them up, it would help her a lot if she could pay by cheque.

I don't have a debit/credit card either. Son pays mine with debit card and I give him cash.

Once you subscribe using a credit card Ancestry will automatically renew your subscription every year.

When Carol subscribed 3 years ago it was under £60 for the none US version of record databases.

Over those 3 years the price has gone up to 80 odd £'s.

The card we used to subscribe with has just ran out and been renewed by the bank.

Ancestry could not take their annual subscription automatically because of this as the security number had changed so Carol's subscription ran out a few days ago.

We've just had an e-mail from Ancestry saying, "We are sorry to lose you, blah, blah, please renew your subscription before 30th November and we'll give you a 20% discount.

That's just over £20 off, they even give you a freephone number to call.

There's a tip there, if you cancel your credit card and get a new one issued Ancestry can't take their sub and you will get the 20% off offer.

I got one of those, Ron. I'd never actually stopped paying my subscription. The only way I could find to swap from monthly (which is automatically renewed) to to annual, was to cancel it and re-enter my details for the new one.

So I was most surprised to get a letter from them saying "We're puzzled as to why you left" etc. If they'd taken five minutes, they might have noticed I'd re-entered my card details.

I dont have a credit card either so cannot join Ansestry/ I did do a bit of digging to see if I could pay by cheque, as I do on Genes, but you have to get a Bank counter cheque made out in dollers. and send to America. So still searching for someone with a credit card.
