I am aware that the adoption laws didn't come in until 1927, but in one of the family history magazines I saw recently that a 19th century adoption was able to be found in some records at a county record office.

My grandfather was adopted, c1887 I have found his adoptive parents (thanks to some stars on GR) and I know his birth mother was Susan Swaithes (now also traced) from his birth certificate. I wasn't expecting to be able to find out much else, does anyone know what information might have been kept in archives at a County record office?

thanks in advance.
