I printed off a form to apply for access to my grandfather’s army records for the Second World War. I need written permission from his next of kin and as my grandmother is not alive that would be one of their children. |

Not 100% sure but I would think that as their parents have both died all the children would have equal status and could sign. |

My mum signed for my grandad's and she isn't the eldest. I then just had to send a copy of her marriage certificate as obviously her name was different. I'm not sure how they even check to be honest. |

I have two older siblings. When I applied for my father's army records, I signed as next of kin. Actually, I had checked with a professional researcher, who was doing some work for me, and he said to go ahead and sign it myself; after all, the MOD wouldn't check up on who was next of kin. I sent a copy of my father's death certificate, my birth certificate and marriage certificate, to prove my identity. |
