Can anyone tell me what you get when joining Ancestry, do you get free usage of the b.d.m. and census so you can look at the actual relevent pages,or do you still have to pay to look at these like you do with genes? |

It's free! All the time you're on! I buy a yearly sub and it's worth every penny. |

You can look at the actual pages - not the certificates themselves, just the actual pages from the indexes. |

Yes, it´s well worth it. Of course you only see the indexes, (indices?). So if you were looking up Sarah Strangebones for example you would see the year she was married, and sometimes the surname of spouse, then you can cross check the spouse and it should be the same date. You won´t get an exact date, but you will get year, and which quarter of year marriage took place and also district where registered, (not the village church). If you look up a birth you will only get as above and not name of parents. But I´ve found loads of marriages that way, also it is usefull to find babies who were born and died between the 10 yr census. I spend ages on Ancestry looking for these lost babies! Of course if you want more info then you have to buy the certs. and if the surname is a common one then you would have to confirm with cert. |

Just looked at your message Valerie, I have been looking on the free ancestry site and it is good value for money when you think what a little you can have on genes for a fiver. |
