Taken from a posting on Roots Chat.

This is the key. A batch number prefixed by C,J or K shows an extract from a Baptism Register. M or E will be from a Marriage Register. P will have been extracted from a printed copy of a register.
A, F or no letter prefix will be a Private Submission and these are often hazardous.

Hi Peter,
Taken from the Hugh Wallis site so the P must stand for something.

Births/Christenings Marriages
C000000-C200000 M000000-M200000
C300000-C400000 No corresponding M batches found in the range M300000-M400000
C500000-C600000 (North America) M500000-M600000 (North America)
C700000-C710000 (Ireland) M700000-M710000 (Ireland)
C710000-C800000 (North America) M710000-M800000 (North America)
C720000-C730000
C860000-C870000
P000000-P120000 E000000-E200000
(The E series seems to be mixed christenings and marriages - they are marked as "misc." in the index and listed in the marriages column on this site since they are mostly marriages)
J000000-J150000 (Males only)
K000000-K150000 (Females only - numbers correspond to the J series for males)
J500000-J600000 (Males only - North America)
K500000-K600000 (Females only - North America - numbers correspond to the J series for males)

Thanks
Paul

I wasn't aware "P" is an abbreviation for anything.

Other lesser known variations for christenings are I, J & K.

Hi,
Many thanks for clearing that up for me. I wasn't sure if it meant Parish, indicating taken from Parish Records.
Thanks for clearing that up for me.

Hi all,
I'm sure that this has been asked before. If the prefix C stands for christenings, the M for marriages, E for extracted then what does the P stand for?
Thanks
Paul
