Sue- thank you! That's them. (I don't think wife Ann ever put the same birthplace twice!) Wonder why I couldn't see it ?!!
It's difficult to see how it could be another Walter, isn't it. Maybe I'll discover the dad was Robert John or something simple........

Can anyone help me with the last piece of this puzzle?
Going backwards with my grt grandad WALTER SMITH 1903 married grt grandma. His occupation Harness Maker.I have cert. (***his father JOHN Smith, "interpreter") 1902 probable death of 1st wife (Jane) Maria Smith 1901 +1st wife "Maria",Dressmaker, born New Buckenham. Walter born Talconeston,Harness Maker, living in London 1891 same 1881 same -at this point living in New Buckenham, next door to William Woodcraft. (1871 'Jane Maria' living with grandfather William Woodcraft)
so I'm fairly pleased with:
1878 marriage cert for Walter Arthur Smith, Harness Maker and Jane Maria Woodcraft, dressmaker, in Norwich registry office.
****But his father on this cert is ROBERT a "machineman".
So, I appear to have 2 different fathers for Walter?
Robert Smith's family, all from Talconeston, fit with a Walter born 1858,in all census EXCEPT 1861- I can't see them?????Help??
The Harness Maker/saddler in the Talconeston directory for 1864 IS John Smith! I'm thinking maybe an uncle...opinions??The village isn't listed in any of the sites people have mentioned for Norfolk parish stuff online, typical!
Basically, do I assume that Walter, son of ROBERT, is the birth cert to send for? Any suggestions as to the change of father's name later in life???
