Maggie in Leics Report 15 Oct 2007 09:20

Looks like it was more guesswork and assumption than actual knowledge - still can't understand how finding my son - who is registered as Living (married name) leads one to find me - registered as Living (maiden name) - both quite common names so there are LOTS to search through, but obviously it can be done!! I can't test it out as when I search, the great genes machine doesn't show me people in my tree!!

I look forward to finding the answer out too. lol.

Summer,

Perfectly genuine enquiry about a possible relationship to the surname I now use, but since their contact on this site is with me under "Living" and my maiden surname, can't for the life of me think how they have worked out what my married name is!! Must be one hell of a detective, unless there's something really obvious I've missed!! Hubby appears on this site under his birth surname, so it's not via that route - only one listed by the surname in question is my son - but still can't work where the link to the maiden name I am registered under is!! It's not even as if they are very uncommon surnames!!

Will be sure and post the answer when I hear back, but not likely to be until tomorrow at the earliest!! (Will be in padded cell by then ;-)))

Jane,

Did you know you can enter a "community name" for use on the boards on "Your Account" page?

Mike,

Little cub not interested in Heritage!! We're on science at the moment - came home with book on "How to build a worm farm" - and other interesting projects!!

YOU'LLHAVE TO SHOUT UP A BIT - WAS IN MANCHESTER LAST NIGHT AT BIG GIG WITH 1,000'S OF SCREAMING GIRL GUIDES - BIT DEAF!!!!!!!!

Line up was good tho - McFly, Natasha Bedingfield, Kate Nash, and a whole host of others that I (and I expect you!!) had/have never heard of!!

Mad Maggie

P.S. If you want to hear it for yourself, it was recorded - will be on Sky 374(I think) on 27/28 October!! http://www.girlguiding.org.uk/biggig/

Thanks Tom, but on my tree, everyone living is listed by ME as just "Living".

Someone obviously gone to a lot of trouble to make the link between Living (maiden name) on here and Maggie (married name) - unlikely to have been the FTM route as there are two contact email addresses on there.......

Guess will have to wait until they get up down under (where the message came from) to get the answer!!

Maggie (going ever so slightly more mad!!)

Very Strange then!! I think I would ask them.

By the way, Jane is my second name, but obviously I have registered my birth name on here - Victoria Jane

When you choose the 'Living Relation' option, YOUR name and details are still shown, although everyone for around the last 120 years is hidden. It should be easy to track down your marriage in the BMD for your County, particularly if you have an uncommon name.

But ...WHY???? ;-(

Jane (Victoria??),

No relation to anyone in my tree!!

The name came into the family when hubby changed his birth name by deed poll so he, I and our son are the only ones connected to us with that name!!

If they are not related to you, could they be related to someone in your tree? They could have done their own independent research. Anyone can find out who anyone married so to speak.

Best Wishes

Jane

Summer,

Sure is!!

Even tried sending a message to myself to see if I could work out how the connection between Living (maiden name) and Maggie (married name) was made - my Daddy always did say talking to yourself was the first sign of madness!! ;-)))

(Ooops, just realised he said answering yourself was the second sign - tried answering my own message as well!!).

Mary,

Still not sure how they found me with certainty since as far as I was aware I am only listed as Living..... on genes, the names of all living people being hidden on my tree.

~Summer Scribe~ Report 14 Oct 2007 19:53

Is it possible that being related to you they've come across you in their own tree and so had done the research independantly? ie, by looking at BMDs?

Mary,

Thanks for the reply.

Not anyone I know, but hadn't thought of the FTM route, tho that also contains my email addy so no need for them to have come through genes.

It is on my FTM site - by default really - didn't realise they would display it as part of the web address when I quite carefully haven't put it on the page.

Just shows how much we give away without realising it!!
