Having had a look I would say that you need to get Bertie's birth certificate. I couldn't see a death for Bertie Henry, but it's not unusual for families to call two kids the same (and then use a middle name on a daily basis). It's the only Nicholls (of any variaton) in Braintree, so it could still be your family, the birth cert would tell you as they were kind enough to put middle names on their census returns. |

If you know his father's name, don't forget to check for variations of how nicholls could be spelt. It could be the right family...look to see if Bertie Henry died in that year, they may have named their next son after him. As Jill has said. Bertie Charles won't be on the 1901 census as he was born after it was taken, but his parents should be. |

Which one is your grandad? If he is Bertie Charles then he will not be on the 1901 census as it was taken in March/April 1901. The only thing you can do to check his parents/siblings is to send off for his birth certificate which will give you his dad's name and his mother's maiden name. |
