Hi Brenda
That's the conundrum. In 1891 he’s listed as born abt 1866 Bermondsey but if I follow the trail back in 1861 he’s born abt 1858 (8 years difference)
Am I definitely on the wrong trail even though his father’s occupation is correct?

I have John Aylward and Hannah Cracknell married April 1884, Newington/Bermondsey Surrey, both listed as minors on their marriage certificate (ie between 14-21 so born between 1863 and 1870) and John’s father John listed occupation as a Carman.
I am trying to trace back John’s family to his father through the census (I’m looking to find the next generation back)and the only John Aylward I can come up with that is a Carman is in the 1861 census after that he disappears and his wife is shown as a widow from 1871 onwards. John Aylward junior is nowhere to be found in 1881 just prior to his marriage although I can find him with his wife and children in 1891 and 1901
My questions are
If I AM on to the right family it makes John Aylward (the groom) 25 so why was he noted as a minor?
If any one has the time can they give this a fresh pair of eyes and help me find John junior in 1881?
Cheers!
Caz
