Does anyone know where I can order a copy of the above please. I am looking for the basic version as I already have a subscription to Ancestry and therefore don't need the deluxe or platinum ones.

FTM 2008 is available on line from twr computing, my-history and http://www.familyhistoryquests.co.uk/fhqshop.asp

HOWEVER, we are receiving feed back that the FTM2008 is not an improved FTM on the previous version but a different program. Personally, I think you should go for the FTM2006 standard program for less than a tenner on those sites.

Sorry but have been unable to post reply messages as keep getting error messages GRRRRRR.
Point taken about the new versions and as I already have the 2006 FTM I think I will hold fire.
Save the money for a couple of certs!!!
Thanks

Sorry for jumping on the thread!

So people would recommend FTM 2006, rather than the newest version?

Mhairi, Ive had several versions, always updating them and i preordered the 2008 but I have been told by one of the suppliers that the 2008 is NOT an upgrade of the 2006 v16 - it is a separate program.

I am disappointed in that the 2008 does not have the internet home page facility we have with 2006 - I believe ancestry is encouraging people to have their home page family information on the ancestry one world tree.

I also understand that the number of trees and reports on the 2008 is no where near the 2006.

Im not sure really what the point is for a 2008 which doesnt actually seem to have improved, rather has less facilities than the 2006.

Ive paid me money now but I shall be running both programs at the same time. I understand also that ancestry who released the US version earlier than the UK one (Im still waiting for my UK one due out this week Ibelieve) have taken on board a tremendous amount of bad feedback and are working hard to add patches and updates are planned.

Bit confused why they have bought it out without sorting it first to be honest.

I did warn you all about 2008.

It's nowhere near complete and a lot of features that are supposed to be in it are not there yet.

Various trees and reports are missing from 2008.

The missing items are planned to be released as updates sometime in the future.

If you have the 2006 Faith, I dont think you will be missing out by the sound of it. Unfortunately I jumped in with both feet and ordered it a couple of months back before reading any negative feedback. Ive made me bed now, so I shall try to see what its like and come back to whinge or otherwise when I actually get it up and running.

Hi Heather
No probs.
I've spent the afternoon inputting facts etc to the 2006 version. I'm really enjoying adding bones to the names.
I hope to be able to offer help soon to repay all those on GR who have kindly helped me in the past.

Just a thought for those thinking of buying FTM 2006. I bought my copy from a branch of Game in Chester about 2 months ago. It was in a box (offering 2 games for £10) but when I got to the till I was offered another game for the total price of £10 so got 3 games for the same price. Needless to say also got 14 days free access to Ancestry too for about £3.33p. A bargain in my book.
Don't know if Game are still doing the offer but worth a look. Gave the other copy away to a neighbour for his Aunt.

Faith, have you not got a tree on here so you can just import your gedcom into FT2006?

gemqueen Report 28 Sep 2007 08:58

Heather
I did have my tree on here but then transferred it to FTM as I wanted to be able to work on it while not online. Now I don't know how to transfer it back so I have one copy online and one on hard drive!!
Advice anyone. I am off to a funeral soon but will check for replies later so apologies if don't reply immediately. Thanks

Bearing in mind the comments on here regarding FTM2008, I was amused today to be sent an e-mail offering the latest verion - my Hotmail account had filed it as Junk !!! And who said computers can't think for themselves !!

gemqueen Report 28 Sep 2007 16:43

Further to my earlier message this morning can anyone advise me on how I can upload a copy of my tree on FTM to GR please.
