The way I get info from the IGI into an email is a multistep process.
Suppose I want to look up my g grandparents marriage - I enter John Greig spouse=Margaret Slessor (in Aberdeenshire, Scotland) and one hit pops up - I click on it - it looks OK, it's an OPR extract and has a batch # m112285. I normally redo the search, adding the batch # (so I can tell later it's an OPR extract), and then highlight the approriate bit of the results page, and cut and paste that:

Results for: John Greig, Aberdeen, Scotland, British Isles
Spouse: Margaret Slesser
Exact Spelling: Off
Batch Number: m112285
[refine search]

International Genealogical Index / British Isles - 1
Select records to download - (50 maximum)
1. JOHN GREIG - International Genealogical Index
Gender: Male Marriage: 14 DEC 1848 Old Deer, Aberdeen, Scotland

If you look at the results page, there's all sorts of links there, plus check boxes, and they don't always come out nicely when you paste it. So how to get round that is to paste it into notepad first (notepad is a really primitive word processor. It's so primitive it ignores + removes all that stuff), and then cut/copy and paste from notepad to your email (I usually copy, and save the notepad file when I'm done).

You can access notepad on MS (Windows) systems via the start button - all programs - accessories (actually, do this often enough and it's worth right-clicking notepad in the accessories list, and creating a short-cut (which appears in the accessories list), high-light that short-cut, right-click and cut, then paste onto desktop).

Sometimes you cannot easily capture all the detail of the individual results in one global search, although you might be not really be concerned if, e.g., Janet Yule is sometimes spelled Jannet Youll. My John and Margaret had 5 kids - the first two appear in the Longside OPR, the next in the Rathen OPR, and the last two were born in Longside after the introduction of statutory registration (1855 in SCT), so they appear in the IGI under 3 different batch numbers - I would normally add a note saying "All OPR or stat rego extracts" after the list of hits for the kids.

How do you all get this info from IGI that you can put into an email?

I know how to use IGI to search for a person, but I don't understand batch numbers and how you all used them.

Can you explain?

Regards

Margaret
