Birth dates are quoted on more recent Death records. This is what Reg found.

REggie, how did you get an actual date of death from Ancestry? I thought it only gave the quarter. Has something improved that I don't know about?

Hi Sharon
Aren't the folks on here great. It is very daunting when you first start researching! I hadn't a clue where to look.
You will soon get the hang of it..........looks like you are well on the way already.
Good hunting.

Hi Sharon,
If you post (or send) your grandfather's details, I'll look up the reference for you. Have you checked for it on FreeBMD?

Hi, My grandparents were born in 1910 - 1920's. Where do I buy the birth certificates from? I know where they were born and which years. Have looked on ancestry.co.uk wasn't sure how much it costs to register, it found a match for my grandfather as a leaf came up but as I hadn't registered I couldn't get any info.

Thank you all for your help

Sam

Sam Report 12 Sep 2007 21:31

If you know who your grandparents were and when they were born, you need to buy their birth certificates. This will give yoy the names of both parents and you can go back from there.

If you don't know when they were born, you need their marriage certificate, which will give you their ages and you then have an idea of when to start looking for their births.

Hi Sharon,
Were any of your grandparents alive in 1901?

If they were, post some details - names, approx ages, places, and we can look up the census for you.

Hi, I have only just started trying to do my family tree, unfortunately I have not had contact with my father for a long time so his side of the tree is difficult, on my mothers side, my grandparents etc have passed away so again it is difficult to get info. I have messaged a few people with hot matches approx a week ago but have not heard anything, just wondering have I done this correctly and also for the best way to get started, at the moment my tree goes back as far as my grandparents on both sides and stops there. I would appreciate any advice anybody could give me.

Many Thanks
