Sorry Zena, it looks like I got the wrong Ellen, I thought the Ellen you spoke about as born 1874 was to be the one that got married. I see now. So sorry

Zena Hello, I have found a marriage of a Ellen Elizabeth Leek, Apl/June 1891 West Bromwich registration district 6b ?97 (now this is what has caused the mess-up) I cannot find who the bridegroom was as there appears to be a mistake in the page number of the reg. dist. When I put in Roberts, George the only George Roberts that appear are not the ones that correspond with this lady. You could take a chance and send for the marriage cert. of Apl/June 1891 of Ellen Elizabeth Leek, IF IT IS NOT TO GEO. ROBERTS THEN THEY WILL NOT SEND IT TO YOU, BUT REMEMBER TO TELL THEM THAT YOU ARE LOOKING FOR A MARRIAGE TO A GEO. ROBERTS. You can send to The Register Office, Highfields, High St. West Bromwich B70 8RJ. enclose £7 cheque (which should be returned if the marriage turns out not to be to a Geo. Roberts) and a stamped self-addressed envelope and your telephone number in case of query.

hi was ellen married before as on my nan's birth certificate it has her mothers maiden name down as one thing and it took weeks of searching, it turned out this was her married name to her first hubbie and not her actual surname

Of course, it may be they just never married.

Hi Christine and Heather,

I have looked on Free BMD and find my past.

I have searched from 1865 until 1901 as Ellen was a widow on the 1901 census.

I do think it is Birmingham where they could of got married.

I just dont know what else to do to get back further.

I have the birth cert for 2 of the children and mother was Ellen Leek.

Thank you.

Regards Zena

You look on freebmd for the marriage - using th eldest childs year of birth, look back a year or so. If its isnt there, then move forward as they may marry many years after the birth.

I take it you have the childs birth cert to have the mothers maiden name?

Hi,

I cant find a marriage between George Roberts and Ellen Leek, the eldest child Ellen was born in 1874 Birmingham, i cant get back no further as George has put his birth in Birmingham and Redditch in some of the census. I think i found Ellen in the census but not living with her family. So i can't order birth certs for them without the marriage cert to get their fathers name.

How would you go about it.

Thank you for reading this.
