How to find my gr.grandmother maiden name?

I have her death certificate & I know the year she was born (1800 in Scotland). |

Can you try for a birth cert. of any of your great grandmothers children? That would give you her maiden name. |

All her children were born in Inverness before coming to Australia & I have no birth dates just the years. |

on the 1841 census I have an Andrew and Anne McGillies in Ardnamurchan with family...Did they drop the Mc at all .....?? Is this the same family now known as Gillies ?? |
