I have gt gt grandparents who had a child in Hong Kong in 1857 and 2 more in South Africa 1860 & 1861 before moving back to Britain. I am sure their father must have been in the forces, although census information states he was a Stonemason.
Does anyone know how to get birth certificates from Hong Kong and South Africa?

You can look for overseas births on the findmypast website (pay per view).

I think someone mentioned the other day that you can get them free on familyrelatives site, but I've never used it so not sure about that.

Hey Kath,

Just to let you know, I have just found my gt grandmother on the Army Births & Baptisms using the findmypast site. Now I know her father was definitely in the Army and what regiment.

Thanks for your hellp.

PS Still looking for the Hong Kong one!
