LOL, well, that was a good guess then - you should have mentioned she made rugs. I would have thought another rug maker probably told her they were a good firm to buy materials from.

Thanks for that heather and anne,
She didnt buy a rug she apparentley made them, on the scribbled address above in faint writing is rug making. so im presuming she bought the wool to make them im also wondering if she had family in newcastle to know about this company. hoping to get some leads really!
Thanks
Sharmala.

Only thing with historical directories Anne, is when you find the entry it tells you no more than you already know - doesnt it. And its such a pain to navigate.

I was just thinking whether companies records would be a better bet. But if its just a casual interest rather than someone owning the business Im not sure if it would be worth the expense or aggro. It may just be someone told this lady that they bought a nice rug at that shop and she made a note of it.

Try googling 'historical directories', then go for area - Northumberland. Then choose your year, and after that it is a hit and miss until you find what you are looking for - the image numbers don't realte to page numbers, just to add to the problem

I have found one or two things, my g-g-grandfather had a business in Whitehaven, and I found the entry in historical directories.

Thanks for that helen, i also found that too.
The name and address was scribbled on the back of my ggreatgarandmothers hand written recipe book for some reason!, i was just interested to know of the history of it as Newcastle is a long way from Burnley.

Can't help I'm afraid, but the address is still there - it's a Fireplace Centre.
