Hi Lisa

I read this thread the other day, then last night spotted a Vaux in a history book.

So just in case it's of interest

"James Hardy Vaux, a twice-transported thief and fraudster whose "New and Comprehensive Vocabulary of the Flash Language" was published in 1819" (in London, mentioned in The Italian Boy by Sarah Wise.

I have, and there are a lot of Vaux living in the Channel Islands (Britsh), which are just off the coast of France.

Don't know if this helps at all.

Jen and Daniel: just printing off my threads and see your responses. Thank you for your information. I will certainly add it to my Vaus/Vaux binder!

Daniel, Vaux is an extremely rare name in North America. Interesting that it doesn't seem to be as rare in the Channel Islands!
