I think I may have an answer to this. I have just cleared all my cookies. I had to log back into Ancestry and, for some reason, the enhanced viewer now opens by default - funny thing is I can't remember having downloaded it and have certainly never used it before. In fact it is a wee bit of a nuisance as the image download times now take twice as long - or that could be Orange playing up again. Anyway, the Charles Deadman (definitely not my great-grandfather) images actually opened this time. So, if you can't view an image, try using the enhanced image viewer and see if that solves it. Curiouser and curiouser. How strange that some of us can't open particular records while others can. It makes no sense at all!

In May 1916 he was 31 years and 10 months and enlisted in Brighton. Rose

That is strange Rose. It also proves it isn't MY Charles - his details should be similar to his brother's as they served in the same regiment together. So it looks like my Charles' record isn't in that series at all,

Odd, because I can see Charles Deadman. Says he was a hairdresser born in Worthing. Rose

I looked at the images from the beginning of the Deadmans. There are a couple with a christian name beginning with A, then it goes to a D christian name., Although Charles appears on the index he doesn't seem to be there. Sorry, I don't understand why!

Thanks Elizabeth. Then it really isn't there yet.

Tracey, I can see Albert John Deadman's record, and a couple of others, but not the one for Charles Deadman that you need. Elizabeth.

As Heather has been able to view Chris' individual's record, I'm wondering if anyone could please try to view the one I'm having no luck with. Just post whether it is actually there or not. It is the only Charles Deadman. He was a Grenadier Guard from 1914, I believe. I've been looking at his brother Albert's records with no problem at all. Both had dependants during WW1. Thanks, Tracey

Pleased to hear I'm not the only one! I've had this problem with certain images even when they just had the A and B surnames. I emailed Ancestry about it weeks ago, but never got a reply.

The next pages all have the same message. However, I've been successful in accessing records for other individuals.

Ive had this problem a few times but when Ive tried again it's fine. I thought maybe it's because being a new addition there are so many people trying to look at the same time that the system goes a bit haywire at times.

I have a query about something similar. I click on the name of the possible entry for my great-grandfather and all that comes up is '© Crown copyright. Images reproduced by courtesy of The National Archives, London, England.' Does this mean that that particular image still has to be uploaded and the name is simply a place holder for now?

I've had the same trouble, using Firefox - most images open with no trouble, but some won't. Downloading the enhanced viewer may be the solution - I'll try that.

Hi Chris This happened to me the other day too. I clicked on the advanced viewer and it opened it up for me no problem. Give it a try it may work for you too. Tracey

My friend had this problem, he is on dial up. He had to change his settings so it took longer to download but he got it in the end. I don't know if this will help. Regards Jill

Hi Rose No, it says it's downloading but nothing arrives when it's done. Never mind, I'll get a friend to print off documents for me over the weekend. Thanks for everyone's help. Chris

Hi Rose Yes I can read other images, just this one relative poses a problem. I've just been playing about and I can read up to image 1510, then it won't open any further images (I need 1552 or thereabouts). Very odd isn't it? Chris
