Probably a very basic question, but one to which I can find no answers. When you kind people add details in reply to queries on the board, do you have to type it all out, or is there a short cut? Alice |

HI I usually jot everything down that I see and retype it, that way then, it is my transcrption and not that of the Official Transcriber. That way then we avoid COPYRIGHT ISSUES and avoid this site bieng taken off AIR so to speak. Wendy |

Can I make the point please that if you do cut and paste say a census entry that it's a good idea to delete all the extra unnecessary bits ie large gaps, extra wording etc. I find if several census entries are posted that they make it very long and I tend to give up reading after a while. Which is a shame as I, and others, may be able to help with something else on the query cheers Sylvia |

I use the 'copy & paste' method, but always make sure to edit the info........either add or remove small details........to avoid issues with copyright. Reg |

Yes I do the same. Take out the parts that are not needed and add on extra. I think if they were that bothered about us doing copies of the typed page they would have kicked off about it a long time ago...it's not like we can copy and paste the actual image onto here. |

I'm the odd ball. I never copy & paste. there are just too many mistranscriptions. I go to the original and type it out. That way, too, I get the birthplaces for everyone making it easier to track them through the other censuses. |

I copy and paste, usually deleting unnecessary bits, ................. but in addition I go to each person's index page, copy down birth year, birth place and relationship to the main person. THEN I also got to the actual image and copy down the occupation(s), address, and any additional note(s) that may have been added in the final column (eg, lame). I also make a note of any possible mis-transcriptions, wrong ages, etc THEN I add all that information to the bare bones index page I c&p'd onto here. Thus ......... the person making the inquiry gets all the information I can find. It does take quite a time to do though! Sylvia |
