I have a problem with James William Hollands born in Greenwich. Parents John & Elizabeth. I have found 3 James William Holland/s born in Greenwich. I have ruled out one that was born in 1816 as he eventually moved to Gravesend. My problem is that on Familysearch - Batch C006321 there are two James Williams both with parents John & Elizabeth. One christened 5 Jan 1812 the other born 27 Nov 1812 and christened 10 JAN 1813. I am inclined to go with the first as I put him as born in 1811. On Census 1841 Richardson St Bermondsey (he married Emma Davies) he says b1816. On Census 1851 5 Collier St, Greenwich he says 1811 and 1861 9 Pleasant Rd, Bermondsey 1811. Am I right in assuming this? Is there any way I can find out for sure? Hope this is understandable. Thanks Chris |

When he married Emma are the witnesses a clue to link him to one family more than another? Gwyn |

Sorry just realised that James chr 1813 parents are James & Mary. (Sorry I was so long following James b1816 that I was confused with parents) In answer to your question they married in 1834 and I only have the marriage record. Thanks Chris |

Children in this order John, Sarah, Matilda, Emma, James, Alfred, Eliza & Frederick. Emmas parents were James & Sarah. |

Chris You can, usually, obtain copies of records through various sources....But the cost of doing so can vary. I would suggest you have a good 'google' for Greenwich Parish Registers or Records and see what comes up. I know the LMA have Greenwich Records and will do a search and copy but charge about £35 as they work on research fees for an hours work! HOWEVER...Just tried 'google' myself 'cause i'm nosy :) And from the Greenwich Council website........... 'Most of the older parish registers for the Greenwich area are deposited at London Metropolitan Archives, but in some cases transcripts and copies of microfilm are available at the Heritage Centre.' So maybe the centre would be able to provide copies at a cheaper rate? Alternatively the local Family History Society may offer a 'look up' facility. Chris |

Thanks Chris I will try Greenwich that is a good idea. Do you think I will be able to prove then which set is his parents. I am just wondering what the parish records will tell me and if they will help me decide. Chris |

Thanks Yvonne I will try that. I am going to try and get to the Greenwich Heritage and have a look. But I am interested in the LDS transcripts. I will phone Greenwich first and see if they have what I need if not I will order as you suggested Thanks Chris |
