They certainly look like a good match to me. I wouldn't let the difference in his age put you off for sure. Unless there's something else that lets you know that it's not them?? edit to add: 1891 original image m-in-law is Parkinson and is a Domestic Housekeeper, born Inskiss. 1881 original image, different profession but m-in-law is from the same place, Inskiss. Sarah came from Lancaster on both of them. Ok, I would conclude that they are the same family. Far too many similarities. So they're either both right or they're both wrong but I can't see a way for them to be different families. Liz |

Hi Summerscribe, Dubious of the 1881 census entry because all there lifes his parent and children lived in or around the chorlton Hulme areas of Manchester, and he had never done manual work, daughter in 1881 was Annie 4 years old. He died in 1909 in Chorlton. If can not find any other, then will have to give this one more rsearch. Frank Frank |

Frank, as I said, these two families are just too similar to ignore. As someone said, what are the chances of two mother in laws with the same name and coming from the same place? Don't forget that some people gave kids nicknames. I have a family of mine who used nicknames on the cenuses for about half of their kids... was confusing as hell until I started matching the names and dates up. Her name might have been Sophie Ann/ie or Ann/ie Sophie. (The initials match if you turn them about...which I've also seen many times). You really never know what might have been happening with them at the time that might have meant a move or a brief change in work. People did what they had to in order to survive. Like I said, I think these two families are the same, which would make them either both your family or both of them wrong. I just can't see how it's possible that they're two different families. I would definitely advise further investigation. Liz |

Hi Liz, Many thanks for your input, I do understand where your coming from. I had thought that annie\sophie could be one and the same and also the mother in law connection. Have tried all variants on his forename and surname that I can think off that to find him, I will look more closely at this family. Also can not find my grandfather on the 1901 census but have just found a remarkable entry on the ww1 pensions database which is a pretty good match, although the spelling of his address is wrong, but looking at the original I can see that it is the address he was living at. Thanks once again for your time Frank |

You're welcome. Hope it all pans out. I sometimes wonder if they realised how awkward they were being. lol Liz |
