I should also mention that my father was born in Canada, then Phoebe went back to the UK before she remarried.

Craig

Craig Report 16 Aug 2007 17:15

Phoebe was born a Kelly in 1926ish. She married William Kenneth Farrell in 1944, had my father, then divorced. Then married John R Green in 1952. Looking to see if she had children after that.

There are loads, even just in Stockton-on-Tees, so it's not going to be an easy job for Craig. Kath. x

Ah, Thanks Kath, the coffee is working. Have you seen how many Green births there are on Ancestry ! Joan x Does Craig know how old Phoebe is, as she may be past child bearing age soon after her marriage to Mr Green. Does he have the marriage cert of Kelly/Farrell to Green ?

KathleenBell

KathleenBell Report 16 Aug 2007 10:22

That's right Joan, and then after marrying Farrell she married John R. Green, and it is the children from this marriage to Green that Craig is looking for. The reason that the two names are given for Phoebe in the marriage to Mr. Green was perhaps because after her marriage to Farrell she reverted to her maiden name and was known as that, although technically her surname was still Farrell, so they use both names in the index just to be sure. So, as Craig is a FARRELL , his father is a Farrell and so Phoebe was born a KELLY who married a FARRELL. ? Joan x

Janice

Janice Report 16 Aug 2007 09:57

One is her maiden name and the other her previous married name.

Joan

Joan Report 16 Aug 2007 09:54

So, the marriage of Phoebe L A to Mr Green in 1952 March qtr is registered under FARRELL and under KELLY. What does this mean ? Craig, do you have your father's birth cert ? Joan, now having a coffee x

Hi Kath, Thanks for that. I was thinking that Craig was looking for Phoebe's maiden name and children from before his father was born......Oh I don't know what I was thinking.....it's early ! Coffee time me thinks, Joan x

Joan. Craig said in one of his replies that Phoebe married John R. Green in 1952. This is the reference:- John R. Green, spouse Farrell or Kelly March qtr. 1952, Durham S.E., 1a, 1911 Kath. x

Hi Craig, do you know when your grandma Phoebe married your grandfather John R Green ? Joan

You can search for Stockton on Tees births on Tees Valley indexes. This is the address:- www.teesvalley-indexes(.)co.uk remove brackets. There is a John R. Green born 1953 which could be one of the ones you are looking for. It doesn't give mother's maiden names, but you can put in checking points if you are not sure if they are the births you are looking for, so you could put in the mother and father's names. Kath. x

Gwyn in Kent

You will need to check the GRO lists for each quarter of each year.... On Ancestry or a similar site or free by viewing fiche at some main libraries or Record Offices. You need to establish which is her maiden name, as this will feature in the registration regardless of what her married name is, at the time. So search for your father first, ...then any siblings with that surname...then start on the GREENs, - still with the same mother's maiden name. There could be some before the marriage date too. If you find some possible names in the lists, they may..or may not... be the siblings.... It could just be a coincidence of a name match only their birth certificate will clarify. Gwyn

My father was born in 1945ish. His mother remarried in 1952... so it would be sometime after that.
