Craig,

If you've just "looked" at Ancestry and searched on the names, I think you have just been ooking at the partially transcribed records which are free to search. These only go up to about 1915/1920.

If you haven't subscribed to Ancestry then you won't have been able to look at the complete index which is what you need to look at. This isn't name searchable and you have to look at every quarter for every year, image by image.

Ack.. still nothing. ... and to make matters worse, a lady that is helping me sent a letter over a week and a half ago to my grandmother and she isn't responding :( I don't think she wants anything to do with me. Without her information, I'm not sure I will find if she had any kids (my aunts/uncles) etc...

Craig Report 17 Aug 2007 17:44

I've looked under all 3 last names (Farrell, Kelly, Green) and can't find a thing in the appropriate timeframe.

Craig

Craig Report 17 Aug 2007 06:14

Well.. I found that Ancestry site. I'm starting to think maybe they didn't have any kids :( I can't find a single listing with their names.

Craig Ancestry is one of the websites you can use to search the records. If you go to page 2 of the tips board there is a message Headed tips for newbies. This is really helpful and gives you advice on websites you can use to search records. Steph

What is 'Ancestry'?

Craig

Craig Report 16 Aug 2007 21:17

That is the question I am trying to answer. I have no idea if he was an only child from his mother (he had a half sister via father and new wife).

Craig, Do you have Ancestry ? It would then mean you trawling through the GREEN births with mmn KELLY. There are lots of GREEN births in the Durham area and it would take you ages. And then it will only be confirmed or disproved if you bought the certificates. Was your father an only child ? Joan

My father returned to Canada shortly after being in the UK for a short duration. He wouldn't have been around for the remarriage or any kids after that. Thanks for your help though! I wish I had the skills to do these lookups.

Craig, Your father was 7 when your grandmother remarried. Does he remember any other siblings? Have found this birth Dec Qtr 1953 Charles L Green mmn Kelly District Ormskirk Vol 10f Page 214 Steph

Hi Craig, Pheobe could have been BORN in the prevoius registration quarter Oct-Dec and REGISTERED in the following quarter. I presume you don't have her birth certificate then. Parents had six weeks in which to register the birth. Joan

Hi Joan, Don't know why I was thinking it was mmn Farrell. Back to the drawing board. Steph

Craig

Craig Report 16 Aug 2007 18:51

I've seen two reports.. That record says 1927 but she was registered 'locally' in 1926. So I'm not sure which is correct.

Joan

Joan Report 16 Aug 2007 18:44

Phoebe was birth registered in Jan-Mar 1927 as Phoebe L A Kelly. Joan

Joan Report 16 Aug 2007 18:42

Hi. The births of GREEN children would still be registered under the mmn of KELLY. I had the same problem when looking for my own birth as my mum had been married before and I was looking under her first married name. It seemed strange to see it that way, Joan

Steph

Steph Report 16 Aug 2007 18:42

Craig, As she was previously married I had been looking for births with Farrell as the mmn. That's what normally happens. Steph

Craig

Craig Report 16 Aug 2007 18:38

I don't know anything about where they have lived. Is her maiden name Farrell because of her first marriage or is it Kelly like it was before the first marriage?

Steph

Steph Report 16 Aug 2007 18:32

Hi Craig, Would your grandparents have moved around? Because I have found 2 births of Green with mmn Farrell. Mar Qtr 1953 Michael W Green District Salisbury Volume 7c Page 517 and June Qtr 1954 Leila E A Green District Sheffield Volume 2d Page 15. Steph

Craig

Craig Report 16 Aug 2007 18:00

Yes, somehow the Leah and the Phoebe were transposed at some point in time.

Joan Report 16 Aug 2007 17:38

Hi Craig. I searched and searched for the marriage of Phoebe KELLY to a FARRELL and couldn't find one . Then reading your last message mentioning William Kenneth I looked for that one. Noted that he married KELLY in O-D 1944 and cross referenced it to a Kelly. The Kelly he married was called Leah P A Kelly. Was your Pheobe L A Kelly the same person ? Joan
