If Ivy was born within the first few years of 1900s, she was not young, when she had her son. Maybe she married relatively late....or maybe she had been married before? Gwyn

**pink Candy** Report 16 Aug 2007 23:15

Yeah i just found the 1903 register with a Ivy Keighley on. Maybe that one is the more accurate one not the 1901. No my grandad was the only child they had as far as i am aware. I'm trying to find out when my gt grandmother and gt grandfather got married, but had no luck as yet. Thanks Kelly

Hi Kelly The registers show the quarter a birth was registed rather than the month born. So if she was born 28/12/1902 then chances are her birth wouldnt have been registered til Jan 1903 so the reference June found in Mar 1903 is most likely her. You can order the cert and see if the dob matches but it is advisable to get marriage cert first so you can match fathers name. Did your granddad have older siblings? Jacqui

Alec was the only child as far as i know. No one ever mentioned another sibling.

The death reg'n is from the Ancestry website. Any info about whether Alec was the eldest? Reg

KathleenBell Report 16 Aug 2007 22:53

I'd say that the birth that June found in March qtr, of 1903 is likely to be the right one. If the birth was on 28th Dec. then they probably wouldn't have had time to register the birth until the New Year. The indexes are when the births were registered and not when the births took place. N. Brierly is in Bradford. Kath. x

(Ivy and Harolds) cheers p.s where did you get that info. on the death cert on this site it doesn't give an age or a page etc... i'm new to all this and don't really know where else to get info from. thanks again

Your message says that Alec Raymond Brearley was born in 1940.............is this his death reg'n? Name: Alec Raymond Brearley Birth Date: 17 Jan 1938 Death Registration Month/Year: Oct 1992 Age at death (estimated): 54 Registration district: Bradford Inferred County: Yorkshire Volume: 4 Page: 84 Was Alec the eldest of the children of the marriage? Reg

Kelly Unless you have Ivy's birth cert, there is no way you can be sure when she was born. The fact that her death cert gives a particular date is no guarantee of accuracy. You need to find her marriage, and find out how old she said she was then........also the name and occupation of her father, which will help with pinning down the family in the 1901 census. Can I ask you also, please, to use normal type if possible......instead of all uppr case. Thanks Reg

Mistakes can easily happen over time. You need Ivy's marriage certificate, which hopefully will show her father's name and occupation, then you can judge whether or not they are the family you found in the census. Do you have an idea when Ivy married?....Oldest child? Gwyn
