Dear Rich, family research takes a lot of time and patience, you have to be a detective and always work backwards from the known, and be prepared to speculate, gamble and follow your hunches. So, you have the marriage certs, great that gives you the previous generation's fathers names and occupations and a part of the country to aim at.Are those fathers alive in 1901? If so you can find them free on the census( see links pages for websites)if they are small children themselves you will probably find them living with their parents on the census so you will get back another generation, then you could search those ancestors free on the 1881 census on family search. With anyone you then find alive before 1902 you can search for them free on rootswebfreebmd and the IGI on familysearch.Once you get some firm clues you can order certificates for confirmation and you trace some more.To get the best out of internet surname sites like Genuki it really helps if you have got a fair sized tree already. The previous pages on the tips board is a mine of information. Familysearch also has tips and templates you can printout for recording.Once you get the bug, you can buy database packages.
