Mmm. I just backtracked because I was getting nowhere with my Reynolds', and found that a chap I had discounted because he was born in the <wrong> place, is almost certainly the one I was looking for - and the ones I thought were <local and relevant> were, so far, just red herrings. And the birth of my William Thos. was probably, as Carole suggested, never registered because it was not compulsory then; That'll teach me - I hope!! Thanks Carole.
