Debra I agree with Vera. Nice as it would be to assume that the one in New York is your ancestor you need to exclude all possibilities nearer to home first. After all you only have to look in a phone book to see how common a name this is. Chasing hares can be fun but very time consuming. He may be the right one but why would he have waited so long before going. If you assume that she told him she was pregnant as soon as she knew herself and he did a runner straight away, the usual time, I would have expected him to be in the US well before the baby was born.

Vera I know beatrice`s father was Charles Day. which was on my grandmothers marriage certificate, I think it was on there in place of Jack Davis because she thought more of him as a real father I think. so I dont think jack was really charles very confused, Anyway thankyou for helping. Debbie

Debbie Have you looked for a marriage of Charles Davies and Beatrice Day with all the various spellings of Davis. As mentioned Jack could have been a nickname and his real full name could have been Charles John Davis aka Jack !! Once you have the Marriage cert you could work out their DOB and send for their birth certs, too, when you double check the indexes for the reference, of course. If you add some dates for all the events and people perhaps someone would look them up in their spare time (LOL) Vera Bromage, Manchester

Have you checked the freebmd website to see if they married. Do a search on his name. He may also have been called Charles because they often used their nicknames on these forms.

Hi all I am at a loss, my late grandmother never talked about her father. on her birth certificate it says Father Jack Davis Mother Beatrice Davis nee Day. On her wedding certificate it said her father was Charles Day which is really her Grandfather. So what I worked out was that Jack had left and perhaps she never knew him. Anyway on the Ellis Island website I found a Jack Davis aged 18 arrived in New York on the same month and year that My Grandmother was born, do you think it is a possibility that he done a runner. because I dont think Jack and Beatrice could have married as there are no records where else can I search for him in New York. Thankyou Debbie
