Andrea I have had a similar problem as you but with the difference that i do not have alot of family to help as thay have all died. I have been able to move forward by using the 1837 site which is a link form this site (bottom left hand corner click on link and scroll down) you do have to pay for your findings but it costs nothing for the original search. 5.00 will give you about 55 searches. Once you have then been able to locate ref numbers of birth/death and marriage certs you can send off a request for them. A good way to start is Birth Certs as this gives parents names and mothers maiden names. This then allows you each time to go back to the next in line and so on. Hope this helps. If you know all this already then sorry to have rabbited on about it but it has helped me and my wife go back on our trees to Great Great Great grandparents. Good luck. |

Andrea It's a shame your family are not helping you. When I started out, I didn't really have any living relatives to ask, but I did have the names and rough dates for my grandparents' births and marriages. So I went to St Catherines House (where the records used to be held) obtained the references for their births and marriages, and sent off for the certificates. You can do all this on-line now, using BMD or 1837online. Once you get the certificates, a whole new generation is opened up, and hopefully, if you are then pre 1901, you can use the census too. The only records of the electoral roll that I am aware are available are on 192.com but they are CURRENT records so probably no use to you. Sorry I can't help further. Lynne Sale |

My living relatives are being somewhat unco-operative with my research and so I am struggling to add names to my tree. Can anyone tell me if there is a website that allows access to electoral records as the only names I have so far don't go any further back that 1902 so I can't use any census records as yet and can't wait 10 years or so for the 1911 census records to be available!! Other than that, can anyone advise me on where to go from here? Where do you go if you only have names....? All help gratefully appreciated. |
