Does anyone know how or if you can obtain a marriage cert for a pre 1837 marriage? I want details on a Willian Clilward who applied for a marriage Licence in 1762 in Ealing Middlesex he then married Elizabeth Nash in Upton Cum Chalvey Bucks and his name was recorded as Clilford. Are the licences available? Any help please

As far as I am aware there were no Marriage Certificates pre 1837. We have to extract info from Parish Registers. There are a number of Transcripts about, but beware of errors. The best way is to get sight of the originals. Many of these are still at the relevant Parish Churches, although a lot have now been deposited at Archives. Jim, Gosport.

Can you get the details supplied for the licence if a cert wasnt issued. I cant get to see the parrish registers as I am up North in Staffordshire and cant drive due to my poor vision. Most of my relatives are from Staffs so I can get there info by taking the bus, this is the elusive line and it just happens to come from over 150 miles away

Have you tried your local LDS Church. They will probably have a Family History Section which can get copies of many records to order for you to view at their premises. Jim
