Hi Lynne There are Family History Centres in most counties in Ireland, have a look at www.nli.ie. If you have the certificate I presume it's one from the register office, what you could do is contact the church where they were married and speak to the priest, who will probably have the original record. If they were Catholic it's quite possible that there are additional details on the entry giving baptism details, this could lead you to the parish which would lead you to the County. The other thing might be to try the other census years to see if he is there. You might get lucky and find that he states the County. The County sites also list some common surnames and where they (usually)emigrated to. The parish records in Ireland don't go back very far, but there is Griffiths Valuation, this is a list of all the people who rented land and was taken during the 1840's, I think. Unfortunately it only lists the head of households and not the family members. Hope this is of some help. Jane

On the 1881 census, Patrick Augustus Duffy (my GGrandfather) was lodging with his (later) wife, aged 28, born in Ireland. I have his marriage certificate, 1886. I am now stuck as I don't know how to proceed. Does anyone know of a website that will help me to find out when he came to England? Also, as I don't know where in Ireland he was born, is there any way of finding out? I also have a similar situation with a GGGrandmother who was born in Ireland. Any advice would be really appreciated. Thanks Lynne Sale
