I too was apprehensive and the first time I tried I failed - so I e-mailed the site - lol - by the time it arrived there I had successfully loaded it and went from having a handful of people to having over 700. Its a brilliant site

Lorraine, Some people have used a software computer package to record their family history before joining this site. Most of these packages enable you to load the info in a GEDCOM file format and this can be uploaded to this site to save having to type up all the info again. If you click on Help/FAQs in the list on the left it explains in more detail. Regards, Beryl

Thank you Beryl, I am still a little nervous about doing this so may wait a while while i work up the courage. My GEDCOM file is now far bigger than my GC tree so i probably should take the plunge soon though! Alison

I have downloaded the Gedcom file - but cannot face deleting everything I've already put into GC and reput it into Gedcom- which is what I presume you have to do? Or have I missed something that is obvious to everyone else and I don't have to completely wreck my GC tree? Somebody please put me out of my misery! Thanks - Rosi

Alison, I managed to load my tree with GEDCOM and I know nothing about how it works! You do have to delete everything except yourself and then follow the instructions. My only tiny whinge is I was expecting to see something telling me it was completed - and if it did I must have blinked. However when I looked - O.K. very nervously - it was there. I don't think I've seen any messages from people saying it hasn't worked for them. Good luck, Beryl.

Hi there has anyone used the load GEDCOM feature. I was going to do it and then it said that i have to delete everyone in my tree except me to do it. I got cold feet because i can't face retyping everyones name in if it doesn't work. Please give me some success stories to ease my fears and phobias! Thanking you in advance Alison
