I found my gggrandmother's (Ellen Cree)christening record on the IGI, searched for family members using the batch number and came up with four sisters and a brother. From this info I found the birth records of the brother and three of the sisters but I cannot trace the fourth sister. Her name was Mary Cree and she was Christened on 25 December 1853 in Beighton,(or Brighton) Derby. To add to the mystery, Ellen was christenend on 20 December, just five days before Mary. Ellen was born in October 1853. I am now wondering whether the date on Mary's record is wrong and should be the same as Ellen's and whether they were twins. I don't understand though, why I can't find Mary's birth record. Anyone have any ideas how I can pursue this? Any help would be appreciated. Lynne Sale CHS

Lynne, my Aunt and Uncle lived in Beighton. My uncle in particular spoke with a very broad accent, for instance coal hole (house) sounded like coiloil.I couldn't understand him at all, water sounded like watter, probably if he said Cree, it would sound like Cray this then leads to Grey,Clay just to suggest a few. Hope you find her,let me know. June,Preston.Lan

Hi lynne if you can get the birth certificate for Ellen it should indicate whether she was a twin with the time of birth - not sure if they were doing this back in the mid 1800;s but might be worth a try Heather
