Lisa All you need to do is apply for the birth cert of one of the children and it will give the mother's maiden name. Lynne Sale CHS

Lisa Me again. The family on the 1881 census on the IGI lived in Gloucestershire, and I have found a marriage between a Thomas George and Caroline Ricketts in Mar 1849 in Gloucester, on Free BMD. Hope that is them!!

I am guessing that you found the name Caroline from her children's Christening details on IGI? Have you tried entering the same batch number with just the first name Caroline and her year of birth (+/-2). It may be that she herself was Christened in the same church, as many generations were in those days. Caroline was not such a common name and you should soon spot if there are any possible surnames. Of course, she may have been born elsewhere and this will not help at all!!!!

Lisa Do you know when and where they were married? Also, I think I have found your family on the 1881 census: are they Thomas and Caroline George with a son Thomas? You could apply for their son's birth certificate, even if he is not a direct descendant, and that will tell you his mother's maiden name.

I thought I needed to know details such as Wifes surname, fathers names, occupation, place of marriage, etc To get a Marriage Certificate?

Can anyone help? The LDS site has been very helpful in helping me find my great great grandparents, however, My great Great Grandmothers name is givin on the IGI only as Caroline. I have checked all records relating to this and can only find other records relating to her married name which is George. (She was born in 1831, So I can't check freebmd). Is there anyone who can give me any tips as to how I find her maiden surname? your help would be greatly appreciated.
