There a a few more census transcribed for the Cornwall area. Type Cornwall Census into your search engine and that should find them. Maggy, West Yorkshire

If you live in the South asnd can do a day trip to London you can see all of the census returns for the whole country (and lots of indexes where these exist) from 1841 to 1901 at the Family Record Centre in Islington.

Hi Judith, I need Liverpool mainly and as I live in the south it's not often I get the chance to come up. I guess looking at census records will have to wait for now unless I fancy shelling out on stepping stones!

Judith Where in Lancashire? You could try www.manchester.gov.uk/libraries. This is the home page of the main library in Manchester. They will have the census returns for 1841 through to 1881 for some of Lancashire. Some of my research is for north Manchester and I've used the local library in Bury who have the returns that I need. Some of them are indexed - others not. Jane Sorry just re-read your message - these are not online as far as I know - it's that early morning moment!

June, Yes I have and it's great found lots of people on their. The trouble is that I really need census records now prior to 1881 so if anyone has any?

Laura Have you tried Lancs.BMD? They are currently workimg on it (I am one of the volunteers) but I dont know how much info they have collected together, its worth keeping an eye on! Good Luck! June,Nr.Preston.Lan.

I pretty much asked the same thing and it depends what county you want. Lancs is the one I'm after and there is nothing (unless anyone can tell me otherwise). You can buy the CDs from stepping stones but they are horribly expensive. Have a look back for the last message posted by me and there's a few other suggestions

There are some local ones on various sites. Best thing is to always try suitable WWW searches and see what turns up. Also look in GENUKI. Martin

Are there any earlier census than 1881 available online (even partly)? Sorry if this is a question that has already been asked but couldn't find any similar thread already started. Are they only available on cd-rom? Thanks
